I Have Returned to the Land of the Living...

I promise that I'm around and making it here! It's been pretty crazy what with starting school and becoming a leader in our homeschool support group. (In my defense, I didn't realize that was what I was doing. I thought I was going to coordinate the holiday parties...turns out when you only have one active officer, said officer reserves the right to make you a leader in that group. Hmm. The things you learn. :)

School is going okay...or should I be more specific? Social studies, Language Arts and Science are going okay...mathematics? Not so great. We have determined that Hooked on Math is NOT a good match for my child. He gets SO frustrated he winds up in tears within seconds of the MENTION of "Hooked on Math". (While I must admit that a portion of this is due to his processing issues and I want him to learn to be more flexible, I NEVER want him to be THIS stressed out. Therefore we are searching for a new math program/curriculum. I am very interested in Math-U-See and am strongly leaning in that direction. (If you have any input about homeschooling math curriculum I would LOVE your input - feel free to leave me a comment! :)

Kiddo doing his first day's Language Arts work at the doctor's office! :)

(He has to wear ice packs on the injection site for about 15 minutes after the shots - we've learned the hard way that this TRULY helps...it seems the allergy specialist really knows what she's talking about...hmmm...)

Due to a scheduling glitch, we wound up getting shots today instead of yesterday and that has our week all in a tizzy! We're working with it...but since it's the beginning of the school year and we are still trying to work out the details and get everything in, it's a little confusing. Hopefully we'll have it worked out by the end of the school year! lol! However, as crazy as this week is already, next week will be crazier. Here's what's going on around here:

Sunday - Church....then lunch. We also introduce Kiddo's Social Studies lesson for the week - these are all lessons in responsibility for boys. This is Bible-based and he gets to practice each theme for a full week before moving on to the next. We've done this for two weeks and so far it's going well...Kiddo likes it and Hubby gets to be very involved with this aspect. Then Church again...Hubby and I will be starting a 4-week Parenting class while Kiddo is doing Dodgeball - which he LOVES! Then Dinner. :)

Monday - Labor Day. No big plans at this point...however, Kiddo might go ahead and get some school done, too. Hopefully some rest will be in order as Friday and Saturday we are going to celebrate our anniversary (late since it was in August) and go to my precious niece Angel's 5th birthday party...it's magic-themed. Oh! Have I told you that my step-dad is a magician? Yep...so the entertainment's built in! :)

Tuesday - Breakfast. Shots. School - at the doctor's office and once we get home. Lunch. Golf lessons for Kiddo (IF the program director responds to let me know he was accepted.) Home to rest and dinner.

Wednesday - Breakfast and then I have a Dr.'s appointment - finally it's here! :) THEN we'll do school and then lunch. Then more school and eventually dinner before we go to church.

Thursday - Breakfast and then CAMP. Then school. Then an homeschool support group meeting from 11:30-1:30 complete with sack lunch and a "Back to School Party" that I am still trying to plan. :) Eventually we'll get school finished and eat dinner.

Friday - Breakfast. CAMP. School. Lunch. School. REST. Dinner.

Saturday - Sleep. All. Day. (Yeah, right...but I can dream, can't I? :)

The following Tuesday (the 15th) is our first fall Tuesday Morning Bible Study! Woo-hoo! I am SO excited. Then after lunch we have golf...crazy weeks ahead, right? We'll make it - God's giving me strength because there is no other way I could handle this stuff right now without a major breakdown. He is so good to me!

I just wanted to let you all know that I haven't been posting because I have been reading YOUR blogs! :) I haven't commented much on them, but rest assured that you are encouraging and uplifting me each and every day! I enjoy our time together, but honestly I am not good at two-way communication. I'm working on it.

Oooh! I almost forgot! My friend that is pregnant? Neeti? She found out today - and I was right I have to tell you! - it's a BOY! We are all beyond thrilled and I will certainly let you all know how to pray for them as the pregnancy develops. Please continue to lift them up for their salvation as this is a real burden on my heart. I truly love them both as wonderful people and I value our friendship, but differences as large as these are such a challenge. There is still a bit of a communication gap as some words are just not easily translated - so please pray that we might say and do all that God will have us to get His point across. He loves them, too and He would love for us all to spend eternity in Heaven together!

Blessings and prayers for you all...until next time. Whenever that might be... :)

You might want to try Math U See...we love it!! This program has really helped Regan with her stressing w/ math.....I am really impressed with it...and the younger you start it, the easier they grasp it.

Math has never been my strong subject. I never could even help them....their dad had to. :(
I hope you find the curriculum that's just right for kiddo so he won't be stressed.
I'm proud of you for all you do!

You have a very full schedule. I'm starting in our fall bible study this morning of Kay Arthur's. I tend to think of it as semester's because there are 10 large sessions that hold about 10-13 weekly sessions inside of each of those 10.

Very confusing, sorry about that. ;-)

Lovingly,
Yolanda

I saw you on Heavenly Homemakers site. You may need to call the ECI (Early Childhood Intervention) program in your area. Some other things to try... call the school adn ask for help. They should be able to tell you something or give you some contacts. Also, search for an "Edcuation Service Center" for your state. I used to work for Region 5 Education Service Center (ESC) in Texas. There services are available to everyone and the way it works is I believe all states have and ESC and that state is divided into "regions". For example: Region 5 here makes up about 30 school districts. These ESC's are all Federally and State funded.... that is your taxes at work and one of the things that I think homeschoolers overlook is that those services are available to us homeschoolers, as well. Many times there are small fees for workshops... many of the workshops are free. In the case of special needs that part would all be free (unless you as a parent want to take a workshop..... their SERVICES for the kids are free). They can connect you will speech pathologists, braille teachers, lots of stuff for Autism and Asperger's, etc.... anything you can think of. If I knew your location I would Google and find you some links. Email me if you want at littlethingstx@att.net . There is sooooo much help you can not even imagine it!!! Blessings!!

On the Brink of More Change...

I can feel it. I am on the cusp of something new. Something different. Something beautiful. I still have no idea what God might be up to - and I am truly okay with that at the moment. I have completed another round of Freedom in Christ. God spoke to me in so many ways...and He continues to do so. I feel so very valued and treasured by my Father. I am in relationship with Him in ways that I always wanted - yet never really felt were achievable. As I have put forth the effort to come to Him more consistently and with a growing desire to go deeper, He has been unendingly gracious and faithful. So as I fall on my face, He gently leans in and scoops me up. The panic and anxiety that once ruled my life are far less, and the calm amidst the  chaos has grown exponentially. I know where to go when it begins to grow again...and it does. Sometimes. Yet God is always ready when I call on Him...and that in and of itself are a learning curve for me. I've learned that others are not constant. Sh...

Keeping My Eyes Fixed In the Storms of Life

On September 20th, my father-in-law collapsed at home. My mother-in-law called 9-1-1 and emergency crews arrived within a few minutes. During that time, he stopped breathing and had no heartbeat. Emergency crews were able to revive him, and he was transported to a local heart hospital. The next two weeks were nothing short of torturous. In order to stop potential brain damage, he underwent a procedure that chilled his core body temperature almost 10 degrees and then after 24 hours, warmed him to normal body temp. Doctors were unsure if he would awake. However, after 12 days on the ventilator, when it was removed, it was like someone flipped a switch. He simply woke up. Even the doctors were amazed. Still groggy from the medications used during that time, he remembers nothing from that time, until about 5 days later, shortly before he had his pacemaker installed. Twenty-two days after his "cardiac event", he was released from the hospital. Still quite weak, he continues to g...
