What A Busy Week!

So was your Christmas a blessing? We enjoyed a lot of time together and with other family members...even after minor accidents! :o)
*Before you continue reading pleaase be warned that there are some pictures that might be considered mildly gory. Kiddo had an incident this week and I have added some pics...if you cannot handle the sight of blood, please skip them. I made them small just in case you wanted to jump past them.*
Wednesday Hubby worked until nearly noon and then they enjoyed the annual Christmas luncheon. I worked diligently at home for hours putting together my contributions to the Christmas Day meal so that all I had to do on Thursday was bake everything. (Cornbread dressing, green bean casserole, ham with pineapple pieces, sweet potato casserole, the gravy for the mashed potatoes and a veggie tray with Ranch dip were MY portion alone! My sister-in-law put together just as much!) Hubby says the Luncheon at work was a good time and it was especially prosperous as Hubby received a small bonus. Some years have been less, some have been more...but we were not counting on anything (both since we SHOULDN'T and because of the economy) so it was a nice surprise. I was trying to clean up a mess and took a tumble down the steps leading from our kitchen to our garage right before Hubby got home - I'm fine...except for my REAR END! It is black and blue still! :o( When Hubby got home we did a few little things (or HE did and I had ice on my ankle that turned out to be just fine) before we headed to my Mom's in Tulsa. It is nearly 2 hours from here and it was a nice quiet drive since Hubby decided Kiddo could have his Nintendo DS back! :o) We got to visit and joke and laugh and every now and then, Kiddo actually jumped in...he could hear everything we said even with his headphones on!

We enjoyed some time with family for a few minutes before everyone except Mom and I went to the Children's Christmas service. We both wanted to go but she had a head cold and I was a bit stiff and not to mention bruised from my earlier incident. We thought we would take it easy and we put a frozen lasagna in the oven to eat when the others got home...then she decided we should put together Angel's Christmas present - a toy playpen and baby doll. Seems harmless enough, right? That's what we thought...at first. She sits down in the den and decides to first open the dogs' new collars and leashes that they are getting for Christmas. And the scissors go straight into the palm of her hand taking a deep cut out of it. I said, "Don't worry. I'll get you all fixed up," and proceeded to clean her up and bandage her hand. She decides since I am the only able-bodied person at this time, I should open the box that Angel's baby is in. I was using my thumb and the box slipped, giving me a huge cardboard-cut RIGHT underneath my thumbnail. OUCH! So Mom says, "Don't worry. I'll get you all fixed up," and gives me a stylish Princess bandage to wear on my thumb as it really was bleeding pretty good. :o So fast-forward to dinner. Everyone arrives home and we are eating lasagna and cheese bread. I picked up my cheese bread with my left thumb and middle finger (don't know why...I usually use my thumb and forefinger) and I thought, "that kind of burns." I looked at my finger and it has a bleeding cut on it...and now I have salt from cheesy bread in it. Ouch. So what do I do? What any NORMAL person would do - I picked my bread up using that same finger again. Ouch...that stings. And I say out loud, "You have GOT to be kidding me!" as my mother and I laugh out loud over the day's festivities. What else can you do? :o) We opened gifts and then after such a crazy day - and at this point my sister is not feeling well (seriously) - we decide to head home. We got home after 11pm and put Kiddo in his bed. We pulled his gifts out of hiding and we went to bed.
Kiddo was up fairly early (SURPRISE! :o) on Christmas morning to get into his stocking and Chuy was ready for some company after us being busy and gone the entire day before. He was thrilled with his 3 gifts (he knew he was only getting three this year...we worked that out earlier and he had no problems - surprised me! :o) and his stocking. He got from us the Transformers movie and a set from Sam's that had six different Transformers (he is a HUGE fan!) and also a game that is a logical reasoning game that looks like a bunch of pieces of chocolate candy (great for my little chocoholic). And Chuy...let's just say that 4 little squeaker balls gave him the best - morning - EVER! :o) Then we went to the in-laws with food in tow. It was a great time of family and laughs and a few gifts. Nothing traumatic happened THERE. :o) My poor mother-in-law wasn't feeling well, though, and found out later that evening that she had a slight fever. She's better now...fortunately.
Friday night we got together with Akash and Neeti. I haven't blogged about them in MONTHS! They are well and we met Akash's brother (Aman) and his wife Shikka. (I doubt I spelled either of those right, but you get the gist! :o) We went out to their home and ate stuffed naan...it was so tasty - Neeti and Shikka are great cooks! (Kiddo can't eat spicy stuff and apparently likes only Indian DESSERTS - surprised? :o) - so he picked out a lunchbox meal from Target. He was very happy with his chicken!) After dinner we got in Akash's big SUV and drove to Chickasha to see the Festival of Lights. Since it was after Christmas, there wasn't as many people - which turned out to be a good thing as Hubby and Kiddo got hurt. We had JUST gotten there and Hubby was gonna run after Kiddo - who ALWAYS runs - and Kiddo turned and stopped. Suddenly. There was a very slow-motion trip involving both Hubby and Kiddo and the sidewalk and there was very little light. I took a picture of Kiddo's head so I could use the flash and see what was wrong and I saw blood...just a little. Which is really odd for a head wound in case you didn't know. (This is what I saw - it's small in case you get queasy easily.)
We all practically RAN to the bathroom (kiddo on Hubby's shoulders most of the way...and Kiddo didn't cry AT ALL!) and I took him in the women's restroom and got him mostly cleaned up. Then we went into the gift shop and I asked if they had a first aid kit. They did, so the very nice (and concerned) employee gave us two cleansing wipes to clean him up. (Then he looked like THIS.) After our speed trip to the OTHER SIDE OF THE PARK! :o) we got to slow down and enjoy everything. Kiddo was fine (but Hubby STILL feels AWFUL - accidents happen, though) and he really wanted to stay, so we did. Here are some of the more fun pics:

(Kiddo took this one - he LOVES taking pictures and as you can see, he is really quite good. Do you have any events you would like to book him for? :o) In order from left to right you see Neeti, Akash, Hubby, me, Shikka and Aman.)Here is the three of us...all injured during a three-day span in two different accidents:
Here is "the girls" just hangin' out in the gazebo of light!
Saturday I got a GREAT gift! You wanna see? Check this out (it is very dirty!):This is my great-grandmother's Chambers range. I am not sure yet how old it is, but I think it is AT LEAST 60 years old. I have a LOT of cleaning to do on it still (and some of it will require some more work) but it will get us by until we can save up enough to get it completely re-done. I might even have it re-porcelained a new color...hmm...cobalt maybe? :o)...but it will likely be a few years before we can afford that. And my kitchen needs to be entirely re-done, so maybe we'll get that re-done when we are re-vamping my kitchen. (It's a dream anyway...a girl's gotta have her dreams! :o) Just in case you were wondering, here is Kiddo's head on Saturday:
(It's wet because I was using some water to wet his hair to get it out of the way. It looks MUCH better already.)

Sunday we had a nice fellowship with our teacher's family (you remember Mr. and Mrs. Pink and their family :o) and Hubby's parents - since they are in our class. They have talked about visiting another class, but wind up in our class each week! :o) It's great!

Hubby is off until the 5th, so we are busy getting stuff done around here and running errands here and there so I'm not sure when I'll be able to post again. But I have a question for you:

What are your plans for the New Year? (I'd love to hear what you're gonna be up to!)

We'll likely play our Nintendo Wii into the wee (ha-ha! get it! :o) hours of the morning...if we have the energy anyway! I'll probably make a bunch of snacky stuff - but I'll stick with mostly fruits and veggies this year! Last year I made Hubby and Kiddo's favorite junk foods and got SO MISERABLY SICK! My poor belly is not used to that much junk! (Seriously it isn't!)
Have a wonderful last few days of 2008 - and may you be greatly blessed in 2009!

Sorry I haven't commented much, but I am keeping up! I've enjoyed hearing about all your happenings. Decorating for Christmas looked fun! :) And the fudge....YUM! I love the cookie cutter idea!

I'm so sorry to hear you have all been injured! At least you're okay and you can laugh about it. :)

Do you know Christy Smith? She has a stove exactly like that! I think she said she got it from Freecycle.....can't remember for sure, but she loves it!

For New Year's Eve, I think Chrysinda and her kiddos are going to come over here. Nothing special, just games and food, but it should be fun. :) I am so ready for 2008 to be OVER!!! Happy New Year!

On the Brink of More Change...

I can feel it. I am on the cusp of something new. Something different. Something beautiful. I still have no idea what God might be up to - and I am truly okay with that at the moment. I have completed another round of Freedom in Christ. God spoke to me in so many ways...and He continues to do so. I feel so very valued and treasured by my Father. I am in relationship with Him in ways that I always wanted - yet never really felt were achievable. As I have put forth the effort to come to Him more consistently and with a growing desire to go deeper, He has been unendingly gracious and faithful. So as I fall on my face, He gently leans in and scoops me up. The panic and anxiety that once ruled my life are far less, and the calm amidst the  chaos has grown exponentially. I know where to go when it begins to grow again...and it does. Sometimes. Yet God is always ready when I call on Him...and that in and of itself are a learning curve for me. I've learned that others are not constant. Sh...

I Have Returned to the Land of the Living...

I promise that I'm around and making it here! It's been pretty crazy what with starting school and becoming a leader in our homeschool support group. (In my defense, I didn't realize that was what I was doing. I thought I was going to coordinate the holiday parties...turns out when you only have one active officer, said officer reserves the right to make you a leader in that group. Hmm. The things you learn. :) School is going okay...or should I be more specific? Social studies, Language Arts and Science are going okay...mathematics? Not so great. We have determined that Hooked on Math is NOT a good match for my child. He gets SO frustrated he winds up in tears within seconds of the MENTION of "Hooked on Math". (While I must admit that a portion of this is due to his processing issues and I want him to learn to be more flexible, I NEVER want him to be THIS stressed out. Therefore we are searching for a new math program/curriculum. I am very interested in Math-U-Se...

Keeping My Eyes Fixed In the Storms of Life

On September 20th, my father-in-law collapsed at home. My mother-in-law called 9-1-1 and emergency crews arrived within a few minutes. During that time, he stopped breathing and had no heartbeat. Emergency crews were able to revive him, and he was transported to a local heart hospital. The next two weeks were nothing short of torturous. In order to stop potential brain damage, he underwent a procedure that chilled his core body temperature almost 10 degrees and then after 24 hours, warmed him to normal body temp. Doctors were unsure if he would awake. However, after 12 days on the ventilator, when it was removed, it was like someone flipped a switch. He simply woke up. Even the doctors were amazed. Still groggy from the medications used during that time, he remembers nothing from that time, until about 5 days later, shortly before he had his pacemaker installed. Twenty-two days after his "cardiac event", he was released from the hospital. Still quite weak, he continues to g...
